If your pool is light green or teal, you will need to double shock your pool using 2 bags per 10,000 gallons of water. If your pool is green or dark green, you will need to triple shock using 3 bags per 10,000 gallons of water. And finally, if your pool is black, use 4 bags per 10,000 gallons of water.

You want to shock your pool at night for the chlorine to be more effective. Make sure you dilute the shock in a bucket of water (preferably warm) before you broadcast it into your swimming pool. Make sure you keep your filter system running 24/7 until your pool is clear and free of algae.

Allow the shock to work for 8 hours overnight to kill the algae. If all goes well, the next morning your pool should be a cloudy or milky blue. This is exactly what you want. If your pool is still green or teal, you are going to want to repeat the process depending on the color of the water.

If the second treatment doesn’t work, make sure you take a sample to your local pool store to make sure that there are no other problems including nitrates or chlorine lock.
